Abstract
zyl-3'-O-[(6-azido-2,3,6-trideoxy-4,5-di-O-benzyl) hexanoyl] thymidine 5'-yl phosphate 8a was prepared. Catalytic hydrogenolysis removed onl y the benzyl esters and reduced the azido group. When the benzyl ether s were replaced by p-phenylbenzyl or allyl ethers, their deprotection also failed.
