The widely-publicized benefits of mediation are not simply limited to
savings of time and money. The process also presents an opportunity fo
r the salving of emotional and psychological wounds inflicted on the p
arties, particularly in disputes such as the sexual harassment claim t
he author describes in this paper. For the ADR professional, such case
s provide a unique challenge requiring insight and the ability to bala
nce the needs of the parties against the necessity to reach an equitab
le settlement.
