Kinetics of oxidation of substituted piperidin-4-one oximes 1-8 by tha
llic acetate in aqueous acetic acid medium is followed iodometrically
at 25 degrees, 30 degrees and 35 degrees C respectively. The order of
the reaction with respect to oxime and oxidant has been found to be un
ity in each case. The first order rate constants with respect to the o
ximes are found to vary with the varying substituents in the heterocyc
lic ring. A possible explanation has been given to account for the var
iation in reactivity in terms of conformational changes on increasing
the temperature.
