M. Rasse et al., FUNCTIONAL RECONSTRUCTION IN A CASE OF OSTEOBLASTOMA OF THE MANDIBULAR CONDYLE, International journal of oral and maxillofacial surgery, 25(5), 1996, pp. 344-345
Resection of the mandibular condyle inevitably leads to functional imp
airment even in cases of reconstruction with prosthesis or autogenous
bone graft. Loss of function is caused by the loss of action of the la
teral pterygoid muscle. Therefore, preservation and fixation of this m
uscle to a transplant should be performed whenever possible. A case of
osteoblastoma of the condylar head and neck with functional reconstru
ction after ablative surgery is presented.
