Abstract
A method combining a generic algorithm optimization process with FEM a nalysis is presented for the minimization of the return loss from bent waveguides. The use of nonuniform rational B-splines to describe the bend profile provides great flexibility to the geometric model with a small number of parameters to optimize. This leads to the design of be nds with extremely low return loss over a wide frequency band. (C) 199 7 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
