The phase diagrams of the following binary surfactant systems were exa
mined by polarizing microscopy: trimethylaminoacetic acid decylester/w
ater, trimethylaminoacetic acid decylester/ glycerol, trimethylaminoac
etic acid decylester/butyleneglycol and trimethylaminoacetic acid dode
cylester/water, trimethylaminoacetic acid dodecylester/glycerol, trime
thylaminoacetic acid dodecylester/butyleneglycol. In all of these six
binary phase diagrams the hexagonal phase, the lamellar and the isotro
pic phase were observed. The formation of crystalline pha ses were dep
endend on the solvents. The regions of the hexagonal phase H and the l
amellar phase L were dependend on the solvents (water glycerol, butyle
neglycol) and on the chain lengths of the ester groups.
