Abstract
Cyanoethylation of methanol with acrylonitrile to form 3-methoxypropan enitrile proceeds effectively over solid basic catalysts such as alkal ine earth oxides and hydroxides, and alumina supported potassium fluor ide and hydroxide at a reaction temperature of 323 K. The catalytic ac tivity of magnesium oxide was scarcely affected by exposure of the cat alyst to air before use for the reaction. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B. V.
