Abstract
The pathogenicity of rotaviruses depends on multiple viral and host fa ctors. Evidence is presented for the involvement of a number of viral genes (coding for structural and non-structural proteins) in the abili ty of the virus to cause diarrhoea. Different genes are important in d ifferent rotavirus-host systems suggesting that there is no single vir al pathogenicity factor.
