Abstract
The interaction of N-2 and NH3 with Ru(0001), (<10(1)over bar 0>). and (<11(2)over bar 1>) single-crystal surfaces was studied by means of L EED, TDS, and HREELS. Results on the initial sticking coefficient for dissociative adsorption of N-2 Will be compared to recent flow experim ents on real catalysts. An overview on N adsorption and NH3 decomposit ion is given. The open Ru(<11(2)over bar 1>) surface is found to stabi lize NH3, NH2, and NH, besides H and N, i.e. the full sequence of prod ucts from ammonia decomposition. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
