A two-and-a-half-year-old developed a bilateral linear eruption that b
ecame hypopigmented before clearing spontaneously. Lichen striatus is
common in pediatric patients but is usually unilateral. The eruption d
evelops along the embryologic skin lines described by Blashko. The cau
se is unclear, but antigenic mosaicism, abnormal skin cell migration,
and a viral trigger have been hypothesized as possible pathophysiologi
c factors. The differential diagnoses include linear papular eruptions
, other variants of lichen, and incontinentia pigmenti achromians.
