Abstract
Recent experiments with Kuzbanian, a disintegrin metalloprotease that is required during development for lateral inhibitory signaling, sugge st that signaling molecules of the Notch family may guide cell fate on ly after they are activated by proteolysis, and that the proteolysis m ay be catalyzed by Kuzbanian.
