K. Takakura et al., PROPHYLACTIC EFFECTS OF PIRENZEPINE (M(1)-BLOCKER) ON INTRAOPERATIVE STRESS-ULCER - COMPARISON WITH AN H-2-BLOCKER, Anesthesia and analgesia, 78(1), 1994, pp. 84-86
Patients under general anesthesia were treated with either an H-2-bloc
ker, ranitidine 50 mg, or an M(1)-blocker, pirenzepine 10 mg, and the
effects of the two drugs on the gastric mucosa were compared by the me
asurement of the gastric juice pH and viscosity. The results showed th
at pirenzepine increased the gastric juice pH sufficiently while maint
aining the gastric juice viscosity, and that ranitidine maintained the
gastric juice pH higher than pirenzepine while decreasing the gastric
juice viscosity. These results suggest that treatment with pirenzepin
e may have advantages in the prevention of stress ulcers.
