Al. Francke et al., NURSES PERCEPTIONS OF FACTORS INFLUENCING THE USE OF A PAIN PROGRAM, Journal of pain and symptom management, 14(5), 1997, pp. 300-310
Factors that, according to nurse participants, influenced the applicat
ion of what was learned in a pain program were explored by means of qu
alitative interviews. Participants indicated that the correspondence b
etween the programs and their personal view on pain management, attitu
des toward the program and innovations in general, self-efficacy perce
ptions, and (un)familiarity and toboos with respect to program items i
nfluenced what they put into practice. In addition, participants indic
ated that interactions with colleagues, nursing managers, patient, and
physicians affected their application of the program. Furthermore, or
ganizational factors, such as limited time and lack of formal program
implementation, were mentioned as influential. (C) U.S. Cancer Pain Re
