The angular distributions of elastic and inelastic scattering of the N
-14 ions on the C-12 nuclei at the energy E(N-14) = 116 MeV for the tr
ansitions to the 4.44 MeV (2(+)) excited state of C-12 and to the 3.95
MeV (1(+)), 4.915 MeV (0(-)) +5.11 MeV (2(-)) excited states of N-14
as well as the C-12(N-14, C-13)N-13, C-12(N-14,N-13)C-13 and C-12(N-14
, C-12)N-14 transfer reactions were measured. The experimental data we
re analyzed using the coupled reaction channels (CRC) model. All measu
red quasi-elastic channels were included in the coupling scheme of the
CRC calculation. The strong coupled-channel effects were observed. Th
e optical model potentials for the C-12+N-14 and C-13 + N-13 channels
were deduced. The deformation parameters for the C-12 and N-14 nuclei
were obtained from the CRC analysis of inelastic scattering. The isoto
pic effects in the N-14 ion scattering off the C-12 and C-14 targets w
ere investigated. Both one-and two-step processes were studied for tra
nsfer channels. It was found that two-step transfers give significant
contributions to some reaction channels. Good description of all exper
imental data was achieved. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
