SIMULTANEOUS DETERMINATIONS OF TAU-POLARIZATION AND NU(TAU) HELICITY USING THE DECAY TAU-]ALPHA(1)NU(TAU)

A method is presented to extract tau polarisation P-tau and tau neutri no helicity gamma(VA) simultaneously using tau leptons produced at the Z(0) which decay into a(1) and v(tau). It provides better sensitivity than independent fits to P-tau or gamma(VA) separately and in fact ca n be shown to be optimal. Estimates of sensitivity from Monte Carlo st udies and comments regarding the use of the technique in experiments a re also presented. We also discuss how results of tau polarisation det erminations using other decay modes may be included. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
