The iodoform reaction is recommanded for the estimation of acetylaceto
ne. In 20 mi moderately alkaline buffer solution, 0.04-0.40 mmole acet
ylacetone is oxidized with 15-20 mi 0.2 N KI3 solution at a sufficient
ly slow delivery rate (0.03 ml.s(-1) or less) under efficient stirring
during addition of the reagent. Subsequently, the solution is acidifi
ed with 10 mi 3.3 N hydrochloric acid and the excess iodine is back-ti
trated with thiosulfate. The method is also suitable for determination
of the acetylacetone content of metal complexes (10-70 mg). (C) 1997
