Rj. Bartholomew et De. Irish, A STUDY OF THE RAMAN NON-COINCIDENCE EFFECT FROM METHYL FORMATE METHYL D-FORMATE SOLUTIONS, Journal of molecular liquids, 73-4, 1997, pp. 253-266
The Raman Non-Coincidence Effect (NCE) of the carbonyl stretching band
of methyl formate as a pure liquid and diluted in methyl d-formate ha
s been studied. A theoretical model of the behaviour of the NCE with i
sotopic dilution has been proposed by Logan (1). Logan's model was tes
ted and found to agree with the experimental data. The bandwidths of t
he carbonyl band were also measured. The variation with concentration
was unexpected (first increasing and then decreasing). This suggests e
ither a change in the total amount of intermolecular coupling or that
resonant energy transfer and pure vibrational dephasing an statistical
ly correlated.
