An eight-year-old female Shetland sheep dog was presented because of a
severe lameness of the right forelimb. The dog was painful when palpa
ting the caudal part of the right elbow. Clinical and radiographical e
xamination revealed a total rupture of the triceps tendon of insertion
. The ruptured triceps tendon was reattached by a modified Bunnell-May
er suture technique. A bilateral external fixator (Typ 2) was used to
immobilize the limb with a comletely extended elbow. Twelve weeks post
operatively the dog showed only a mild lameness.
