Abstract
Fully developed turbulent flows in closely spaced bare rod arrays have been studied numerically by using a nonlinear k-epsilon model. This m odel permits inequality of the Reynolds normal stresses, a necessary c ondition for calculating turbulence-driven secondary flows in non-circ ular ducts. Results of the calculation are compared with experimental data. The present computations yield reasonable agreement with experim ents, However, the modeling of the transport effect by large scale cro ss gap eddy motion is required. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science S.A.
