SYNTHESIS OF TETRASUBSTITUTED DERIVATIVES OF [FE-3(CO)(12)]

The treatment of [Fe-3(CO)(10)(LL2)-L-1] [L-1, L-2 = CO, P(OMe)(3), P( OCH2)(3)CMe] with CNBut in the presence of Me3NO yields the tetrasubst ituted derivatives, [Fe-3(CO)(8)(CNBut)(4)], [Fe-3(CO)(8)(CNBut)(3){P( OMe)(3)}], [Fe-3(CO)(8)(CNBu3t){P(OCH2)(3)CMe}], [Fe-3 (CO)(8)(CNBu3t) (2){P(OCH2)(3)CMe}(2)], [Fe-3(CO)(8)(CNBut)(2){P(OCH2)(3)CMe} {P(OMe)( 3)}] and [Fe-3(CO)(8)(CNBu3t)(2)(P(OMe)(3)}(2)]; the compounds were ch aracterised by analysis, mass spectrometry, IR, and (in part) H-1 and P-31 NMR spectroscopy.
