Kinematic viscosities nu have been measured for binary liquid mixtures
of butanol (n-C4H9OH) + pentane (n-C5H12), + hexane (n-C6H14), + hept
ane (n-C7H16), and + octane (n-C8H18) at T = 298.15 K. Values of nu ha
ve been used to calculate dynamic viscosities eta, using available den
sity data. The values of the quantity Delta eta, which refers to the d
eviations of eta of mixtures from those arising from a mole fraction a
verage, have also been calculated. The values of nu, eta, and Delta et
a have been fitted in appropriate equations using a least-squares meth
od. The analysis has shown that McAllister's approach correlates the l
iquid-mixture viscosity data of the present systems throughout the ent
ire composition range to a significantly high degree of accuracy, wher
eas Lobe's approach predicts nu of mixtures to a lower degree of accur
acy.
