Abstract
In the Fries rearrangement of phenyl and naphthyl esters in clay inter layer, framework aluminium acts as a Lewis acid, catalysing the rearra ngement. An increase in the size of migrating group/substrate causes a n increase in the formation of 2-isomer. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd .
