This study uses a longitudinal cross-sectional database to investigate
individual firm strategic changes in the less-than-truckload (LTL) se
ctor of the U.S. Motor Carrier industry. A new method of assessing yea
r-to-year strategic change is developed. Results indicate that strateg
ic change is influenced by both external and internal variables, inclu
ding the macroeconomic environment, industry turbulence, deregulation,
