Abstract
This study uses a longitudinal cross-sectional database to investigate individual firm strategic changes in the less-than-truckload (LTL) se ctor of the U.S. Motor Carrier industry. A new method of assessing yea r-to-year strategic change is developed. Results indicate that strateg ic change is influenced by both external and internal variables, inclu ding the macroeconomic environment, industry turbulence, deregulation, CEO change, firm age, and firm intertia.
