Abstract
A synthesis of 3-formyl-4-pyrones by Vilsmeier-Haack reaction of subst ituted benzyl methyl ketones has been reported. The reaction of benzyl ethyl ketone with chloromethyleneimimium salt gave corresponding 4-py rone while phenoxy acetone gave N,N-dimethylamino substituted pentadie naldehyde.
