Abstract
Here we report a case that presented with sudden onset of neurological symptoms and was treated with ganciclovir. Polymerase chain reaction analysis for human herpes virus-6 (HHV-6) from his cerebrospinal fluid was later found to be positive. He subsequently recovered with minima l residual neurological symptoms. Encephalitis secondary to this virus may be more common than previously thought in patients undergoing bon e marrow transplantation. This condition should be considered in the d ifferential diagnosis of sudden onset neurological symptoms after bone marrow transplantation.
