Abstract
Co/Pt/Ni/Pt/multilayers have been prepared by RF sputtering to study t he effect of Ni layer thickness on the magnetic and magneto-optical pr operties. The magnetization and the Faraday rotation have been interpr eted in terms of the properties of Ni layers in Ni/Pt and a good agree ment is obtained. The squareness of the loop of Co 5 Angstrom/Pt 15 An gstrom increases from 0.7 to 1.0 with the addition of very thin Ni lay ers (less than or equal to 5 Angstrom). For thicker Ni layers the loop shows in-plane character.
