Abstract
Accurate values for the Al-27 chemical shielding anisotropy (CSA) are reported for sapphire (alpha-Al2O3). The values (delta(sigma) = -17.3 +/- 0.6 ppm, eta(sigma) = 0.03 +/- 0.06) are obtained from single-crys tal Al-27 NMR and appear to be the first convincing determination of a n Al-27 CSA.
