Ionization profiles of conformed therapeutic electron beams were measu
red at normal and oblique incidence. At oblique incidence it appears t
hat the air gap produces a competition between the coulombic multiple-
scattering and the loss of intensity of the beam both of which depend
upon the size of the conformed beam. Comparisons of our results with s
imple multiple-scattering calculations are performed. (C) 1997 Elsevie
