Abstract
Formation of positronium (Ps) atoms in collisions of fast positrons im pacting on atoms (ions) is studied. Total cross sections (TCSs) for hy drogen targets obtained with several theoretical approximations are co mpared. Scaling laws for hydrogenic targets are given, The TCSs for po tassium targets are computed and comparison with other theories and ex periments is made. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
