N. Hirose et al., INDUCIBLE ACCUMULATION OF MESSENGER-RNA FOR NADH-DEPENDENT GLUTAMATE SYNTHASE IN RICE ROOTS IN RESPONSE TO AMMONIUM-IONS, Plant and Cell Physiology, 38(11), 1997, pp. 1295-1297
After growth for 26 d in water, rice seedlings were transferred to a m
edium containing 1 mM NH4Cl. The mRNA for NADH-glutamate synthase was
markedly increased in the roots within 3 h. Methionine sulfoximine com
pletely inhibited this accumulation, suggesting that NH4+ is not a dir
ect inducer of this process.
