Exclusive and inclusive (nu(mu),mu(-)), (nu(e),e(-)) cross sections an
d mu(-) -capture rates are calculated for C-12 and O-16 using the cons
istent random phase approximation (RPA) and pairing model. After a pai
ring correction is introduced to the RPA results, the flux-averaged th
eoretical (nu(mu),mu(-)), (nu(e),e(-)) cross sections and mu(-) -captu
re rates in C-12 are in good agreement with experiment. Predictions of
(nu(mu),mu(-)) and (nu(e),e(-)) cross sections in O-16 are also prese
nted.
