G. Chiu et al., EFFECT OF ELECTRON-ION EQUILIBRATION ON OPTICAL-EMISSION FROM A SHOCK-WAVE, Physical review. E, Statistical physics, plasmas, fluids, and related interdisciplinary topics, 56(5), 1997, pp. 4947-4950
Optical emission from a shock wave emerging from a free surface is stu
died using numerical simulations taking into account the effect of tem
perature equilibration between electrons and ions. The results show si
gnificant variations depending on the equilibration rate. They also il
lustrate how measurements of the absolute intensity, relative spectral
intensities, and temporal history of such emission can provide a new
and important means for determining electron-ion equilibration rate in
dense matter.
