Abstract
A simple yet realistic theoretical model is used to study Anderson loc alization of electromagnetic waves in three-dimensional disordered die lectric media. The preliminary results presented in our previous paper [M. Rusek, A. Orlowski, and J. Mostowski, Phys. Rev. E 53, 4122 (1996 )] are substantially extended and a sound physical interpretation is p roposed. Very striking universal properties of the spectra of random m atrices describing the scattering from a collection of randomly distri buted pointlike scatterers are discovered. The appearance of the band of localized electromagnetic waves, emerging in the limit of an infini te system, is numerically observed.
