La. Grunfeld et M. Battistin, NORWEGIAN DIRECT-INVESTMENT IN EAST-ASIA AND SOUTHEAST-ASIA - TRENDS AND PROSPECTS, Internasjonal politikk, 55(3), 1997, pp. 377
In this study, we present a survey of Norwegian foreign direct investm
ents with a particular focus on investments directed towards East and
Southeast Asia. Norwegian investments in the region have traditionally
been few but relatively large, and the number of Norwegian manufactur
ing firms in these countries is thus small. However, the number of sal
es and distribution companies is relatively high. As for most of the O
ECD countries, Norwegian FDI in the region has grown substantially ove
r the last decades, but compared to the growth in total Norwegian FDI,
the amount is quite small. Over the last 10 years, it appears that No
rwegian firms have found more interest in European countries, a develo
pment which is specific for Norway. The fact that Norwegian firms inve
st disproportionately little in China, Indonesia and Korea is also mak
ing Norway look different from the patterns of other OECD countries.
