Abstract
A hypercompetitive environment presents a challenging context for stra tegy formulation. In this article we present a case study of Pepsi Can ada's strategic success in a hypercompetitive environment. Using quali tative methods of analysis we develop an event history of the industry and the firm, and causal maps of internal strategic and annual planni ng documents. From the case study we derive a set of propositions that identify criteria for success in such an environment. (C) 1998 Elsevi er Science Inc.
