The conformation and packing structures of dodecyltrimethylammonium ch
loride/hydroquinone (CH3(CH2)(11)N+(CH3)(3)Cl-/p-C6H6O2 . 2H(2)O) and
dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride/catechol (CH3(CH2)(11)N+(CH3)(3)Cl-/
o-C5H6O2 . 2H(2)O) complexes, have been determined by the X-ray diffra
ction method. Both complex crystal structures have similar molecular a
ggregation systems. The small guest molecules (hydroquinone or catecho
l) were arranged between the interdigitated host amphiphilic molecules
(dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride). The one significant difference b
etween both complexes is the derails concerning hydrogen bonding.
