Abstract
A CAUSAL RELATIONSHIP between sex steroids and meningioma proliferatio n has long been suspected. We report a case of the clinical progressio n of a sphenoid wing meningioma after the placement of Norplant, a sub cutaneous contraceptive implant containing levonorgestrel, a progester one agonist. Although not proof of causation, this observation lends f urther credence to the importance of progesterone receptors in the gro wth and possible treatment of meningiomas.
