An analysis of ozone distribution in the atmospheric boundary layer ba
sed on monitoring data from two TOR stations in Croatia is given. The
levels were found to be generally higher than expected for the contine
ntal background. At the Puntijarka station, which can be taken as repr
esentative for the region, high values are mainly associated with tran
sport from the west. The RBI station represents an urban site with occ
asional photosmog situations. Short term measurements along the Adriat
ic coast have shown that there is a negative north to south gradient i
n ozone concentration as predicted by model calculations, but also tha
t some local photochemical production takes place even at the remote A
driatic island far from pollution sources.
