Abstract
The efficiencies of an enzyme method and the sodium hypochlorite metho d in hatching eggs of Taenia solium (Henan strain) were compared. The viability of the hatched oncospheres was determined by staining with t rypan blue. For the former method, the hatching rate and viability per centage were 85.7% and 79.7%, respectively. The corresponding figures for the latter method were 97.9% and 86.7%, respectively. These findin gs indicate that the sodium hypochlorite method is a simple, efficient and practical method for hatching eggs of Taenia solium. (C) 1997 Aus tralian Society for Parasitology.
