R. Balasubramanian et V. Veerabadran, SUBSTITUTION OF INORGANIC NITROGEN THROUGH LOCAL GREEN-LEAF MANURE AND AZOSPIRILLUM IN RICE (ORYZA-SATIVUM), Indian Journal of Agronomy, 42(2), 1997, pp. 285-287
Application of 50% of nitrogen as inorganic fertilizer + 25% oi N thro
ugh prickly sesban or dhaincha [Sesbania cannabina (Retz.) Pers.] + Az
ospirillum as seed and soil application recorded higher grain yield of
58.7 q/ha with the highest benefit : cost ratio of 4.52 : 1. It was f
oIlowed by 75% of N as inorganic source + 25% of N through prickly ses
ban. Application of green-manure alone and iu combination with azospir
illum can substitute 25 and 50% of N respectively. Incorporation of wa
steland weeds such as Cassia nigricans and Ipomoea carnea Jacq. also h
elp to substitute inorganic nitrogen by 25% without any reduction in y
ield.
