This is the first reported case of ectopic prostatic tissue in the ute
rine cervix, diagnosed in a 38-year-old woman. A cluster of benign pro
static glands with cribriform and papillary patterns and fecal squamou
s metaplasia occupied the superficial endocervical stroma. The glands
were immunoreactive for prostatic specific antigen and prostatic speci
fic acid phosphatase. This lesion, which could be confused with microg
landular hyperplasia, mesonephric rests, or adenocarcinoma in situ may
represent an embryonic rest.
