INFLUENCE OF COORDINATED CR(CO)(5) GROUPS ON THE FRAGMENTATION OF REALGAR - SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF THE NOVEL MIXED ZINTL ION COMPLEX (C5ME4ET)CO(ETA(4)-AS6S)

A complex containing the novel mixed Zintl ion As6S2- is obtained from
the reaction of (Cp2Co2)-Co-x(CO)(2) (Cp-x = C5Me4Et) with As4S4[Cr(C
O)(5)](n) (n = 1, 2) in boiling xylene. (CpCoAs6S)-Co-x (1) is formed
along with already known (Cp2CO2As6)-C-x (2), (CpCo)-Co-x(CO)As4S3 (3)
, and (Cp2Co2As2S3)-Co-x (4). The product distribution and nature of t
he products show that the Cr(CO)(5) groups play the role of sulfur-abs
tracting reagents rather than that of protective groups.
