Mixtures of the polyaniline (emeraldine base) and phosphorylated calix
[4]resorcinolarene derivative (CA) are proposed to prepare LB films fo
r conductometric gas sensors. They are quite stable at the air-water i
nterface and give LB films of high quality. The average thickness of t
he mixed monolayers is found to be 1.6 nm. The as-deposited films are
insulating. Doping with HCl increases the conductivity up to between 0
.6 x 10(-3) and 0.5 S cm(-1) which depends on the component ratio. The
films containing more than 20 wt% of CA are doped reversibly in part.
Thus, the films which are highly sensitive to either NH3 or HCl films
are prepared by choosing the component ratio. Detection of NH3 and HC
l in the ppm range is demonstrated.
