Previous articles in this column have discussed how new information te
chnologies are revolutionizing medical education. In this article, two
staff members from the Association of American Medical College's Divi
sion of Medical Education discuss how the Association (the AAMC) is wo
rking both to support the introduction of new technologies into medica
l education and to facilitate dialogue on information technology and c
urriculum issues among AAMC constituents and staff. The authors descri
be six AAMC initiatives related to computing in medical education: the
Medical School Objectives Project, the National Curriculum Database P
roject, the Information Technology and Medical Education Project, a pr
ofessional development program for chief information officers, the AAM
C ACCESS Data Collection and Dissemination System, and the internal St
aff Interest Group on Medical Informatics and Medical Education.
