Jm. Garcia et al., SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF ALIPHATIC-AROMATIC POLY(ETHER AMIDE)S, Macromolecular chemistry and physics, 198(3), 1997, pp. 727-737
Four aromatic diamines containing aliphatic spacers and meta and para
oriented oxyphenylene rings, and their corresponding hydrochlorides, w
ere combined with isophthaloyl chloride (IPC) and terephthaloyl chlori
de (TPC) to give high molecular weight polyamides by interfacial and l
ow-temperature solution methods. The synthesis and characterization of
monomers and polymers are reported, and the differences observed in p
olycondensation yields, molecular weights and molecular weight distrib
utions, as a function of the method of synthesis, are discussed. Value
s of number-average molecular weight ((M) over bar(n)) up to 8 x 10(4)
g/mol and weight-average molecular weight ((M) over bar w) up to 1 x
10(5) g/mol could be measured by gel permeation chromatography using a
romatic polyamide standards, and values of (M) over bar(n), up to 2 x
10(5) g/mol and (M) over bar(w) up to 3.6 x 10(5) g/mol by using polys
tyrene standards.
