S. Stenderseidel et al., INVESTIGATION OF DIFFERENT ONTOGENIC STAGES OF RAILLIETIELLA SP (PENTASTOMIDA, CEPHALOBAENIDA) - ACCESSORY GENITAL GLANDS, Parasitology research, 83(3), 1997, pp. 264-268
The ultrastructure of accessory genital glands in Raillietiella sp. is
described and their function is discussed. In females we assume that
they reactivate sperm, which are stored in the receptacula seminis aft
er copulation. In males we think they are primer-pheromone glands, whi
ch inject secretions into the female during copulation and stimulate t
he development of the female genital system. This study presents a rev
ised nomenclature, which allows for the comparision of former results.
