Abstract
Upconversion emission in Er:YALO(3), (Er,YALO) was produced by excitat ion at wavelengths resonant with transitions from the I-4(13/2) metast able state. Both steady state and time dependent fluorescence measurem ents are reported, and the energy flow pathway is described. The upcon version pump mechanism is a combination of cross relaxation energy tra nsfer and non-resonant sequential two-photon absorption. Upconversion emission from the P-2(3/2) State in Er:YALO was also observed.
