L. Silveira et al., HUNTING ASSOCIATION BETWEEN THE APLOMADO FALCON (FALCO FEMORALIS) ANDTHE MANED WOLF (CHRYSOCYON-BRACHYURUS) IN EMAS-NATIONAL-PARK, CENTRALBRAZIL, The Condor, 99(1), 1997, pp. 201-202
Hunting associations between Aplomado Falcons (Falco femoralis) and ma
ned wolf (Chiysocyon bruchyurus) were observed in six occasions in Ema
s National Park, central Brazil. Falcons were successful in 25% of the
ir hunting attempts. This association benefits the birds that hunt flu
shing tinamous missed by the wolf's attack. The predominant grassland
habitat of the park enables the falcon to pursue prey in flight that w
ere flushed by the wolf from tall dense grass.
