Mossbauer spectroscopy was used to study the early stages of precipita
tion in Cu-0.6 at.% Fe alloy. A set of data for the concentration of i
ron in solution was obtained for annealing times from 1 to 10(5) s at
400-degrees-C. The results were interpreted in terms of quenched monov
acancies and divacancies. A proposed analytical expression describes t
he annealing fairly well. The application of the Mossbauer spectroscop
y in short-time-scale annealing experiments seems to promise new possi
bilities for investigation of the diffusion properties.
