Abstract
The dielectric functions of composite materials consisting of free-ele ctron-type metal particles (Ag or Cu) and a dielectric host material w ith epsilon(h) = 1.0, 2.99 or 6.0 are calculated using the Maxwell-Gar nett model. These function present an anomalous region when the interb and transitions of the metal particles occur at frequencies above the resonance frequency (2epsilon(h) = -epsilon(m)). In this case the Lore ntz oscillator model is used to analyse the optical behaviour of the c omposite material. The Lorentz parameters are calculated and discussed .
